Okay. In the interests of not getting bogged down, I want to start next session with the party being ready to leave Holmgard. If you need a refresher, the plan to go get Mathaeus' clone is off. Instead, Sean thinks it'd be a good idea to go swipe Maltarin's spellbooks, and since no one objected too violently, it seems like that's the plan.
From selling off the loot of your dead comrades, everyone gets 2000gp. (yes, this is more than market value. You guys win this time.) Xe instead got a Ring of Protection +1 and 1000gp.
Orion also offers each of you one free item to help. You can pick from...
With the entire school's heaped resources, you can use your own cash to purchase anything under 8000gp.
(and if Ralt trades Orion his 3337gp, he can have a +2 version of whatever that armour is he's looking for).
With everything identified courtesy of the school, you have:
-Golembane Scarab (Found on Ogres)
-3x Knowstones: Dispel Magick, Water Breathing, Identify
-Moncaede is not even magick. Don't be ridiculous.
You also have in your custody one Elcid Barrett, known bandit and red-head.
Now, onto Orion. Resolve any discussion here (In Character preferably).
You arrived at the school early on the morning of the 87th day of Spring, with just 13 days to go until Maltarin blows up Geoffrey's stomach. Not that it matters to you, since Geoff's dead, but once the time's up, all bets are off and Crescentium's vampiric population might want a word with you.
Orion: "Friends! And ... erm... Keirenna. Thank you for coming. I had one of my students cast the spell of sending to Maltarin and pass on the message that I needed to speak to him about an astounding new discovery. He said that he would meet with me to discuss it, but that his journey would need to be brief.
"I don't know how much time that gives you, but there's one more thing you should know. Maltarin said that before he was leaving, he would have to get a couple of friends to come and look after his Castle. He said one would be coming from Holmgard, and the other from Graven. Perhaps if you leave now, you will be able to arrive before the guest from Holmgard, but as for the 'friend' coming in from Graven? I doubt you could arrive first.
"Now... there is one last problem. Maltarin carries a lesser spellbook with him at all times. Even if you destroyed the ones he kept in his castle, he would still have a number of magicks on hand."
Sticks and Blurn: "That's where we come in!"
Sticks: "We wait until Maltarin's just about to leave..."
Blurn: "Them I'm gonna swipe his book!"
Sticks: "Then I'm gonna eat the pages!"
Blurn: "Then we replace them with drawings of me on the toilet!"
Sticks: "It's fool-proof! He'll never realize until he tries to rememberize his spells!"
Orion: "... yes. I suppose that takes care of that. I will contact you with a Sending spell as soon as possible about the success of Sticks and Blurn's plan. In addition, I will be sure to have Maltarin 'demonstrate' as many of his spells to my students as I can. He's always eagre to display his power, so hopefully he'll be near to depleted of his arcane power by the time he arrives back at his castle.
"Good luck in this. And remember, Wizards are most protective of their spellbooks. Beware any traps that Maltarin may have left. But after those books are destroyed, and providing Sticks' plan is a success, Maltarin will be much easier to kill. How you do that is up to you. An ambush from inside his castle, waylaying him on the road, more... explosive options..."
...
So yeah. Sean's plan depends on a pair of incompetent dwarves, but these guys -have- to succeed some day, right?
The castle layout (or as least as much as Ralt and Spus have seen) :
