Recent History of Krae: From the works of Kraeic historian, Professor Hallibern Wilkes
-108 AE: Civil War in Astoria breaks out over the discovery of an ancient relic: the Sceptar of Elomyhr. Five duchies war for 50 years in attempts to obtain the Sceptar
-58 AE: the Sceptar is claimed by Duke Onadhal of the North, who proclaims himself Deus-Imperatus of Krae
-8 AE: Wars break out between the remaining four duchies, while the Emperor Onadhal the Second spurs them on with promises of rewards for the victor.
-2 AE: Duke Rytam crushes his opposition, and with the rewards of a mithril mine, uses his resources to declare war on Emperor Onadhal the Second.
-1 AE: Two groups of explorers, frustrated with the warring, set sail for the western horizon. They are Sir Willis Veriquae, sponsored by Duke Orm, and Sir Verence Taradan, sponsored by Duke Jarneth.
Recent History of Crescentium: By Mintarin Maezorl
0 AE: The Veriquae Expeditionary Force claims the northern part of the continent, with Duke Orm as their Emperor. The Taradan Force claims the southern half, Duke Jarneth as their King.
1 AE: Highlanders make first concerted attack against the Astoran invaders. Their style of guerilla warfare takes a toll on the Astorans, but they are eventually rebuked.
5 AE: The elves retreat from the lowlands.
10 AE: War breaks out between the two Empires over ownership of the mines to the south of the Shadowlands Forest. In the next one hundred years, eight hundred thousand will die as a result of direct conflict.
100 AE: Kelathyrism becomes more widespread. The Order of the Eternal Dawn is founded by Sir Wilfred the Stalwart. He stresses unity between the Empires and warns of the gathering forces of darkness.
110 AE: The wars finally come to a close as Sir Wilfred convinces King Verick to forge a lasting peace with the south in the face of the growing threat from both the Highlanders and the denizens of the Shadowlands.
111 AE: Luther Dracen joins the Order of the Eternal Dawn.
115 AE: Highlanders of the Truagh Clan take Reis, and prepare to march on Graven. They are halted as winter descends.
116 AE: Highlanders defeated at the battle of Graven. King Verick outlaws the clan colours, and bans Highlanders from carrying weapons south of the Plateau
140 AE: Maltarin Maezorl pens the Book of Prophecies.
148 AE: King Verick dies. King Romark the Eighth is coronated.
149 AE: Spring: Sir Wilfred the Stalwart dies. Luther Dracen is denied ascending in his place by the new king.
149 AE: Summer: Luther Dracen forges a deal with Maltarin Maezorl and becomes Luther the Fallen, the first Vampyre
161 AE: Luther passes on his "dark gift" to Romark's five children. Romark orders the children killed, but his man-at-arms instead secrets them away and places them with five foster families around the continent.
162 AE: King Romark and his wife commit suicide. Their note cites the death of their children as the cause. Sir Hemrir is coronated.
163 AE: King Hemrir begins the "Inquisition", to hunt down and kill all of Luther's spawn. Luther himself evades capture, and is never seen from again.
179 AE: The Five reach maturity, and their Dark Gift flourishes. A second wave of vampire attacks plague Crescentium as each forge their own distinctive brood.
183 AE: Spring: In the face of growing attacks by the undead, King Hemrir steps aside and founds the Scarlet Nocturne Society, a group devoted to fighting the vampiric menace.
183 AE Summer: Duke Hamerdahl seizes the empty throne and is coronated on Midsummer.
190 AE: Hemrir's Scarlet Nocturne Society begins to win the war, and the vampires are forced further underground. The Broods are kept small, though the Five remain unaccounted for.
201 AE: The orcish tribes are displaced from the mountains by the Stonewall Clan dwarves, and with nowhere to go attempt to settle west of Holmgard. The human response began a long war against the primative greenskins. The foolish southerners embrace the orcs.
227 AE: Adventurer's Society founded.
245 AE: Holmgard is almost taken by the Urdash tribe of Orcs. They are beaten back when the town is rescued by a warlord named Viscount Varuin Orner, leading an army of one thousand mercenaries. He becomes a trusted friend of the King.
255 AE: King Rothan the First, his attention fully on the war with the orcs, loses contact with the descendents of Hemrir and the Scarlet Nocturne Society. Underfunded and undermanned, the vampire threat starts to rise under the surface once more.
260 AE:: Mintarin Maezorl returns from self-imposed exile among the Highlanders and defeats his evil great uncle, Maltarin Maezorl, in a spell duel witnessed by Viscount Varus Orner.
265 AE: King Rothan the First falls leading a charge against the Urdash Orcish tribe. King Rothan the Second is coronated.
273 AE: Viscount Varuin Orner disappears when campaigning in the east in the name of the new king.
274 AE: The Orcish tribes are finally broken. The Urdash clan retreats to the base of the mountains.
275 AE: Distinctive patterns emerge regarding the killings of the broods.
280 AE: The vampires of the Blood Legion become a significant enough threat for King Rothan II to appeal to Mintarin Maezorl for help. He accepts.
